Setting a New Standard in the Era of Electric Vehicles

Kia Motors' flagship electric vehicle, the EV9, is garnering significant attention in the global automotive market with its cutting-edge technology and sophisticated design. One of the key factors in the success of the EV9 is the innovative seat design that provides the utmost comfort to the driver and passengers. The seat design for the EV9 was a project that required a high level of expertise and know-how due to the various specifications and new technologies applied. Hyundai Transys' design engineers derived requirements to provide optimal solutions considering the characteristics of each row, including the first, second, and third rows, and Muyamigo did its best to implement the client's requirements.

Flexible Response Support through Precise Design Review

For the first-row seats, the initial design skin comfort section was reviewed, and the moving trajectory was examined by applying the frame of the reference model. The layout was thoroughly checked for each power and manual specification, and the injection-molded part design and mounting concept were meticulously reviewed. Although the CV model concept was initially applied to the matching part of the backboard and the upper back pad, the design was flexibly changed in response to anticipated quality issues.

Application of Various Specifications and Introduction of New Technologies

The second-row seats had a high level of design complexity as various specifications such as RELAX, 7P STD, 6P STD, and SWIVEL had to be carried out simultaneously. The mounting of pads and injection-molded parts was reviewed for each specification, the assemblability of injection-molded parts was checked, and special attention was paid to the application of innovative technologies such as 7P RH WALK IN.

Enhancing Completeness through Comprehensive Design Process

For the third-row seats, mockup data work for injection-molded parts for advanced seat production was carried out, and the optimal direction was suggested using internal reference models when reviewing the initial frame concept. The completeness of the third-row seats was enhanced through proposing injection-molded part designs and reviewing assemblability, as well as reviewing seat assemblability and proposing improvement measures. In all rows, the body package was reviewed, seat layouts were designed, approval and part drawings were prepared, certification documents for each region were prepared, and kinematic motion was verified, carrying out a comprehensive design process. In particular, the additional review work of the back pad, cushion pad, and backboard for the MV general and GT specifications contributed to raising the completeness of the EV9 seat design to the next level.

Through the EV9 project, Hyundai Transys was able to demonstrate its innovative seat design capabilities suitable for the era of electric vehicles. Customized designs considering the characteristics of each row from the first to the third row, application of various specifications, and introduction of new technologies are the results of the combination of Hyundai Transys' technical prowess, Muyamigo's modeling experience, and problem-solving skills. The seats of the EV9 are expected to provide the utmost comfort and satisfaction to the driver and passengers, and contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of Kia Motors' electric vehicle lineup. Based on the success story of the EV9 seat design, Hyundai Transys will establish itself as a company leading the future mobility market. Moreover, Muyamigo will utilize its accumulated experience and know-how to provide even more innovative and customer-oriented seat design services, thereby contributing to the development of the automotive industry.
